"Life is like a bowl of ramen. The noodles are the events that come and go and the broth is your friends. Don't slurp too quickly!"

Menya Miyabi is a Japanese Ramen restaurant in Queensbay Mall, specializing in Hokkaido Ramen. To be frank, I walked pass this restaurant many times but was not intrigued to enter somehow (partly because the facade or menu didn't attract me enough).

And one day, while I was in Queensbay Mall, I had this sudden craving for Japanese Ramen so I decided to give it a try.

The restaurant is a small, no-frills eatery place which can be seen in one glance. A bar-like table is placed in the middle of the restaurant as a design and also catered for quick diners.

I opted for their signature ramen, Yaki-Miso Ramen (fried soybean paste flavour). The ramen turned out to be surprisingly delicious!

Kenya Miyabi's concept is to offer an authentic Japanese culinary experience with its original Hokkaido recipe hence the flavour is origin and not adjusted to suit general tastebuds. White soup can be requested to dilute the taste for those who prefer a milder flavour.

One portion of ramen comes with half of a soft-boiled egg, some flavoured bamboo, 1 slice of nori (read: Japanese seaweed), and 2-3 pork slices.

The noodles broth tasted strong and flavourful, though some would consider it to be slightly salty. I personally can take quite salty food and I always prefer my soup broth to be flavourful so I am fine with the strength of taste. However, I did request for the white soup just to get a taste of it. Partly also because I was starting to feel the kick of saltiness towards the end of my bowl. The noodles were done al-dente and infused with the flavour of the thick broth.

I would say the optimum flavour in general is to add 3-4 spoonful of white soup to the original broth.

What's better?

My bowl of ramen came with extra 50% portion of noodles FREE! Menya Miyabi is having this promotion on weekdays where you get extra 50% of the noodles portion FREE when you dine in between 2 and 5PM.

Overall, it was a satisfying meal with authentic Hokkaido Ramen. If I had to nitpick, more pork slices could be given for a more hearty bowl of noodles.
