Doutor Coffee, Japan @ Gurney Plaza, Penang
Doutor Coffee has been around for a long time.
In 1980, Doutor Coffee opened its first European style cafe in Harajuku, Japan.
Ever since, Doutor Coffee has been successful in the market, serving good quality coffee and Japan-inspired food.
In 2016, Doutor Coffee has expanded to Malaysian shores with 3 outlets (Aeon Bukit Tinggi, Sunway Velocity Mall and Aeon Tebrau City). It then continued to reach Penang recently where the outlet is located at Gurney Plaza.
This new outlet is placed at the al-fresco zone between the mall and G-Hotel, with a bright entrance and see-through design.
I love their minimalist interior with a touch of warm lights, making the whole environment very cozy and welcoming.
The 2-pages menu is straight-forward with their signature items indicated with their coffee bean logo (and I noticed nothing exceeds MYR20 on the menu!). Just tick the items you want on the order sheet and hand it over to their friendly staff.
Coffee lovers must opt for their signature hand-brew coffee which is freshly brewed with Hario V60. The 'blend' is mixed with3 types of coffee beans while the 'single origin' is from Entopia.
Another signature drink is the Creme Brulee Latte which has a burnt sugar coating on top of the latte, just like the dessert. A very interesting drink indeed as I felt as thou I was having the liquid version of Creme Brulee, with coffee flavour.
The Teriyaki Chicken Spaghetti was delicious though it looked rather ordinary. With the mix of onsen egg, it gives the dish a creamier and more buttery flavour.
Doutor Coffee's Signature Spaghetti indeed lives up to its fame. The al-dente pasta in Japanese mix sauce came with an abundant of ingredients - Chicken ham, sausage, shimeiji mushroom, eggplant, tomato and spinach, topped with an onsen egg and sesame. This dish was impressive. OISHII~~!!
We wanted to order their signature 'fluffy' series rice dish but it was sold out so we opted for their Tomato Cream Omu Rice with Shrimp & Mozzarella instead, and it did not disappoint at all.
I absolutely enjoyed this comforting dish. It was a perfect combination with elements of cheese, egg and tomato cream. OISHII x 2 ~~!!
Time for dessert!
The Original French Toast was soft and fluffly, with a pillow-like texture. Dip the toast with honey and the accompanied vanilla ice-cream, it will be amazing!
All of us love the Matcha Souffle. It has a contrary texture with slightly crispy crust on the outside and airy moist filling inside. An awesome beautifully made dessert with the right amount of sweetness!
Overall, I was happy and satisfied with the food quality and affordable prices in Doutor Coffee. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back to check out other items on the menu!
