Restaurant Xin Quan Fang 新泉芳咖喱面茶餐室 (Ma Ta Liu curry mee) @ Ipoh

Restaurant Xin Quan Fang 新泉芳咖喱面茶餐室 (Ma Ta Liu curry mee) @ Ipoh

Look no more if you are looking for the best curry noodles in Ipoh!

OK, to be honest I have not tried enough curry noodles in Ipoh to judge and compare but I truly believe this is definitely one of the best, partly due to the endless praising I got from my Ipoh friends and simply because the curry noodles in Xin Quan Fang (also fondly known as 'Ma Ta Liu' curry mee by the locals) was sooooooo good!

This place is known for its long queue so being the typical 'kia-su' Malaysian (actually I just don't bother to queue lah), we woke up at 6AM and was there slightly before 7.30AM (see? win liao lor! lol).

As we were one of the first few customers in the shop, we were excited to be able to pick our preferred seat (eh, this is an unusual scene ok, as it is usually packed or have to share table when it gets really busy). A friendly uncle came to take our order and we ordered one dry and one soup hor fun, with the 'liu' (ingredients such as roast pork, char siew etc) in a separate bowl.

It was a bit of a wait and the food only arrived when hubby was having his second cup of white coffee. It was no issue to us as it wasn't a dreadful wait and we have expected the wait from several blog sources.

We were delighted to see the bowl of 'liu' with pieces of 'siu yuk' (roasted pork) beautifully laying on top of other ingredients such as char liew, bean sprout, prawns etc. The curry noodle was delicious and the hor fun was nicely infused with the flavourful taste. We compared both dry and soup hor fun and we reckon the soup hor fun triumphs the dry hor fun by a slight margin, also partly because I personally feel the ingredients better complements the soup noodles.

Now I understand why Ipoh-ians call this place the legendary of curry noodles. It DOES live up to its reputation!
