Grapes & Malts @ Chow Thye Road, Penang

Grapes & Malts @ Chow Thye Road, Penang

"You can't buy happiness but you can buy WINE and that's kind of the same thing".

Grapes & Malts, with its tagline 'Your wine, whiskey and water place' is no other than the best place to enjoy a bottle of wine and whiskey with family and friends.

Located along Chow Thye Road where people often get an impression that it is difficult to find a parking space, it is not the case at Grapes & Malts as it offers ample parking space in front and at the back of the outlet.

Grapes & Malts boasts a cozy environment which makes it a perfect spot to hang out after work to socialise, engage in a business discussion or simply just for networking. The comfortable lounge with slump in sofas feels a lot like home and is ideal for those who prefer some quiet time and privacy while enjoying their wine or whiskey in the evening. The owner is very creative to utilise empty wine bottles to illuminate dimmed lights to create an even more intimate and romantic ambience.

On the other side is the courtyard section decorated with wine barrels converted into high tables with bar stools, which is great for chatters and the high spirited.

We were seated in an intimate private room which is just nice for 8 person on that beautiful evening.

There are numerous wine selection be it from the old or the new world that will delight wine lovers; along with well selected, premium quality whiskeys for the whiskey enthusiast. Best of all is the reasonable and affordable pricing.

We sampled 4 types of wine that evening and every one has its unique taste and aroma. We started off with Prosecco which is a sparkling wine. Bearing a fruity aroma with subtle floral notes, this is a good start for the evening. Moving on, we had Cabernet Sauvignon from Tuscany, which brings out deep cherry and leather flavour with subtle wood notes. Next, we tasted a French wine, which is also my favourite among the 4. Its full, ripe and roundly fruity notes left a deep impression. The last red wine for the evening was an Australian full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon from Clare Valley, bursting with blackcurrant and reveals a subtle sweet vanilla along with oak notes.

Saito Karakuchi Dry Sake - clean and refreshing dry sake which can be matched with a wide variety of food.

Which one would be your favourite pick?

Other than having a relaxing drinking session that evening, we were taught how to properly enjoy wine and whiskey and were educated with wine and whiskey knowledge that evening. Private functions can be catered with wine talks with wine sommeliers on board and whiskey tasting by the whiskey education experts.

Grapes & Malts Signature Cheese Board

To top it off, simple tapas dishes are prepared to complement the drinks. We were taught to enjoy their house specialty cheese board with crackers and spring onion, then mixed them with a sip of red wine. The unique way of eating gives that zest in a mouthful and further enhances the flavour of the wine. I love how the food is cooked simple with only Himalaya natural sea salt added to give a little flavour. Food is aimed to be kept as natural as possible and fresh ingredients are daily replenished. For big eaters, opt for the delicious aglio e olio to satisfy the hunger.

Antipasto Olive & Mushroom

Sauteed mushroom ; sauteed chiken ; sauteed beef ; chicken jumbo sausage

Quasadilla served with guacamole sauce

:: I love this so much!

Aglio e Olio Spaghetti with chicken ; prawns

Drink, dine and relax at Grapes & Malts and you will not be disappointed.

Thank you Grapes & Malts for extending the invitation. We had a great evening!
