Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiao 高温街芽菜鸡沙河粉 @ Ipoh

Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiao 高温街芽菜鸡沙河粉 @ Ipoh

If you ask Ipoh-ians where to have good bean sprout chicken, the answer is not the commonly heard 'Lou Wong' or 'Onn Kee'. To them, those are too touristy and the locals prefer their tauge chicken at either Cowan Street or Bentong. I didn't manage to visit the latter during this trip but I will make sure that I do the next time I visit Ipoh. So I went to the former, which is Cowan Street Tauge Chicken and I believe this place is not new to many of you.

Cowan Street Tauge Chicken has gained its fame rapidly over the years and has probably been blogged to death. Nevertheless, I would still like to share my opinion and experience in this restaurant.

We were lucky to grab a seat looking at the amount of crowd that evening. However, no one came to take our order promptly. I waited patiently before decided to go over to the counter to place my order but was asked to sit back at my seat and wait for the waiter to take my order. It took a while before a lady approached to take our order.

Albeit the wait, the ordering process was quick and simple. Just tell the staff the number of diners and say yes or no to the side dishes like bean sprouts or chicken feet or innards. It also didn't take long before our food arrived.

The bean sprout and hor fun were excellent, like the 'Ipoh standard' as usual; the chicken feet was soft and tasty, got me keep going for it, literally effortless as it was easy to suck the meat off the bones; and now, the chicken......

The poached chicken was no doubt tender, smooth and silky as expected, even the breast meat that I usually dread having is juicy. The only one thing that made me hold back to give it a full-mark is the sauce drizzled over the chicken. I personally reckon it is a bit too oily and a bit too tasty (read: salty).

I have heard this shop's opening hours could be quite random so it is best to give them a call ahead to avoid disappointment!
