The saga between Choy Kee vs Hung Kee is never ending. As we had a tight schedule during this trip and Choy Kee is a little out of the way, we decided to go for Hung Kee and leave Choy Kee for our next trip (so there's always a reason to go back to Ipoh, right? :D)
Hung Kee egg tart is operated in a coffee shop called Weng Seng. We went over after our scrumptious breakfast at Xin Quan Fang, which is just a very short distance away. For a box, we got ourselves half dozen of their famous egg tart, and sampled a 'Gai Dan Gou' (Chinese swiss roll) which was recommended by the owner.
I ate one egg tart on the spot and it was delicious, but I personally feel it would be better if it was served a little warmer. However, no complaints for the buttery taste and fragrant aroma. Now I can't wait to try Choy Kee and make a comparison! I have also heard their 'Shat Keh Ma' is another popular item too but I cannot comment on it as we didn't try it that day. Let me know if it tastes yummy as well?
If you would like to get a taste of Hung Kee's popular egg tart or Shat Keh Ma, you got to ignite your 'kiasu-ness' because their items can run out pretty quickly especially during weekends. So come early to avoid disappointment! 手快有，手慢无啊！
